A personal brand photography case study for Write with Megan
The Situation
Megan spent years teaching before she found her way to this work: thesis writing, at the college level, to students who mostly didn't want to be there. She was good at it, and she hated it, and it took her a long time to find the version of teaching that actually fit: helping women entrepreneurs find their own voice on the page, instead of correcting someone else's.
She's adamant about one thing above all: she is not "just" a copywriter. She's a teacher who happens to specialize in writing, and her clients aren't hiring her to write for them; they're hiring her to finally write like themselves. Her audience is women who've built real businesses, know their audience, and can write, but who get stuck the moment they sit down to talk about their own offer. They're ambitious, intuitive, often spiritual, ready to lead, and exhausted by content advice that asks them to sound like everyone else.
What she really wanted, going into this shoot, was simple to say and hard to deliver: images that let a stranger feel her energy before they ever got on a call with her. What she had instead was a set of photos that were professional, competent, but actually quite forgettable. The kind of headshots that check a box without telling anyone what it's actually like to be coached by her.
She was also standing at the start of something bigger. A new oracle writing deck and a new Goddess Writing Circle were both about to launch, and the brand she'd need for that next chapter didn't exist in her photos yet. The gap wasn't her expertise — she had that. It was that nobody looking at her website could yet see the difference between hiring a coach for a skill and being led by one.
The Strategic Decision
This is the piece that separates this shoot from a standard headshot session, and it's the reason this remains one of the largest personal brand packages I've built to date: a full day, five setups, four wardrobe changes, and an assistant on set. A library this comprehensive doesn't come out of a single backdrop and an hour of poses.
Before any of that, we built Megan's brand persona from the ground up: personable, high-energy, intuitive, established, playful, and upscale, in specific proportions that don't usually sit together. She needed to read as credible enough to charge premium rates and approachable enough that a stuck, overwhelmed client would actually reach out. The breakthrough was realizing that every pose on the list needed an assigned job, not just a mood:
- Guidance, made visible. The single image concept we built the day around — Megan reaching a hand out, or leading a client up a flight of stairs, which was never meant to be literal. It's ascension: what it feels like to be lifted by someone who already knows the way up.
- The brainstorm, caught in motion. Megan's gift is fluency. She generates ideas out loud, on the fly, faster than most people can catch them. The "having an idea" and pointing poses throughout the day exist to put that specific talent on camera, not just "excitement" in the abstract.
- Working with her, not just working. The shots with a stand-in client were built to answer the one question every prospective client actually has: what does a session with Megan look like from the inside?
- The desk, the tools, the credibility. The home office set we captured her journaling, her favorite pen and coffee cup, standing absorbed at her desk, exists to ground everything else. Established, structured, serious without being somber, because a client half-sold on "joyful and intuitive" also needs to see she can hold a plan.
- The beach, unguarded. Megan's own instinct going in was that nobody looks small at the beach. This is where she fully sources herself. The joy, flow, and dancing shots there were built to be the emotional payoff of the whole story: this is what it feels like once you've stopped forcing it.
- The goddess, arriving on schedule. The final set wasn't an afterthought. It was timed deliberately to the two things Megan was about to launch: a new oracle writing deck and a new Goddess Writing Circle. The images needed to exist before either one had a name attached to them.

"I've really stepped more fully into my leadership energy in my business, and the photos that Gina took capture that vibration. They're a perfect complement to my marketing and the feeling I want my audience to have from what I post."

The Shoot
We started at 11 a.m. with hair and makeup by Tami Bernard Makeup, and didn't wrap until well past the plan. The day ran roughly two hours over, which for a shoot this layered was exactly the point. Five setups, four wardrobe changes, and a hired assistant carried us from a courtyard session through downtown Arroyo Grande, into Megan's home office, and finally out to the beach for two more distinct sets as the light changed. This is what a full personal-brand day actually looks like when a client is building an entire library, not a single headshot refresh.
Welcoming You In
The images built to be the front door of her business. The hero shot, the About section, the first thing a stuck, overwhelmed visitor sees; warm, joyful, zero pressure.

The Guide
The single most important beat in the whole shoot: what it feels like to be led by her, made visual instead of implied.
The Spark
Megan's specific gift is fast, fluid, in-the-moment brainstorming. When she’s caught mid-idea rather than posed as generic "excitement."

Grounded in the Work
The credibility layer. Established, structured, capable of holding a plan, not just flow and joy.
Finding Her Flow
The emotional payoff of the day — self-sourced, unguarded, exactly what "you never look small at the beach" was describing.

The Goddess Arrives
Shot to already exist before her Goddess Writing Circle and oracle deck had names — this is Megan meeting the next chapter of her brand a season early.
Outcome
This library didn't sit in a folder waiting for a use — it became the visual infrastructure of Megan's entire online presence in one pass. The beach welcome shot became her homepage hero. The office portrait became her About section. The playful, pointing images went straight onto her opt-in landing page. A single headshot became her profile photo everywhere she shows up, and a three-quarter portrait against a neutral background became her Facebook cover. Every major touchpoint a prospective client hits before ever booking a call now comes from the same day, telling the same story.
The goddess set was captured while the Goddess Writing Circle's own identity was already out in the world and building momentum. So, rather than running for months on logo and copy alone, Megan had photography that matched that energy within the same season, not years behind it.
"Gina really listened to what I wanted to get from the experience and took the time to know my business and brand before the shoot. I now have a wealth of fantastic photos to use for my online needs and I'm getting very positive feedback."

Takeaway
"In the past several months I've really stepped more fully into my leadership energy in my business, and the photos that Gina took capture that vibration. They're a perfect complement to my marketing and the feeling I want my audience to have from what I post. Booking the shoot and taking a day off of work was also a really great affirmation of my commitment to running a business that serves my lifestyle. I was surprised by how fun and free it felt to take off work on a Thursday in order to do this for myself. Not to mention the wonderful excuse to buy some new outfits!"

Working with Megan reinforced something true for every coach on this platform, whatever they teach: nobody is hiring the subject matter. They're hiring the experience of being led, and if your photography can't show a stranger what that feels like, your expertise alone won't close the gap.

"I absolutely recommend Gina of Ginici Studios to any business owner who is the face of their brand and wants incredible pictures that capture who they are at a soul level. I would also recommend Gina to anyone who wants to fully own their natural beauty and be able to see it looking back at them from a photograph. Talk about a self-esteem blast off!"
